Measuring Anti-Oxidents

16 Feb

Did you ever wonder if your vitamins or supplements are working?  Do you know what your level of anti-oxidents are in your body?

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.  Health problems such as heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, cancer etc are all contributed by oxidative damage. Indeed, a recent study conducted by researchers from London found that 5 servings of fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of stroke by 25 percent. Antioxidants may also enhance immune defense and therefore lower the risk of cancer and infection.

Well there is actually a way to determine whether or not your vitamins are working for you and determine your level of anti-oxident protection, best of all it is not invasive.  It is a newly developed machine called a biophotonic scanner by a company called Pharmanex.  This company is well known for their state of the art products all geared to help lessen the effects of aging inside and outside the body.

This incredible Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner has transformed the way we look at our health, and has created a business opportunity like no other in the world.

What is the Scanner? It’s a revolutionary tool developed by Pharmanex to measure the carotenoid antioxidant levels in your skin-and prove the effectiveness of your supplements in improving your overall antioxidant health.

What does the Scanner do? Place the palm of your hand in front of the Scanner’s safe, low-energy blue light laser, and you will obtain an immediate reading of the carotenoid antioxidant levels in your skin-your Skin Carotenoid Score.

Why should I be scanned? By measuring the stable level of carotenoid antioxidants in your skin and generating your Skin Carotenoid Score, the Scanner provides a more accurate and reliable biomarker of your overall antioxidant health status than other methods of measuring antioxidants. Getting your Skin Carotenoid Score makes you aware of the antioxidant levels in your body-and gives you the push you need to improve your overall antioxidant health.

The LifePak® and g3™ Money-Back Guarantee
Get your Skin Carotenoid Score measured with the Scanner, take LifePak® or g3™ for 60 days, and get your Score measured again. You will have proof that Pharmanex® supplements can improve your antioxidant levels and your overall antioxidant health. In fact, Pharmanex guarantees that your Skin Carotenoid Score will increase as you take LifePak® or g3™ regularly as directed.

The Importance of Anti-Oxidents (carotnoids) in Your Body

23 Jun

Carotenoids represent one of the most widespread groups of naturally occurring pigments. These compounds are largely responsible for the red, yellow, and orange color of fruits and vegetables, and are also found in many dark green vegetables. The most abundant carotenoids in the North American diet are beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, gamma-carotene, lycopene, lutein, beta-crpytoxanthin, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin.

What can high-carotenoid foods do for you?

Protect your cells from the damaging effects of free radicals
Provide a source of vitamin A
Enhance the functioning of your immune system
Help your reproductive system function properly

What events and lifestyle factors can indicate a need for more high-carotenoid foods?

Smoking and regular alcohol consumption
Low intake of fruits and vegetables
Food sources of carotenoids include carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, collard greens, and tomatoes. To maximize the availability of the carotenoids in the foods listed above, the foods should be eaten raw or steamed lightly.

Antioxident and Immune Enhancing Activity

In recent years, carotenoids have received a tremendous amount of attention as potential anti-cancer and anti-aging compounds. Carotenoids are powerful antioxidants, protecting the cells of the body from damage caused by free radicals. Carotenoids, and specifically beta-carotene, are also believed to enhance the function of the immune system.

Promoting Proper Cell Communication

In addition to their antioxidant and immune-enhancing activity, carotenoids have shown the ability to stimulate cell to cell communication. Researchers now believe that poor communication between cells may be one of the causes of the overgrowth of cells, a condition which eventually leads to cancer. By promoting proper communication between cells, carotenoids may play a role in cancer prevention.

Do you know what your Carotenoid level is?

Recently released is a Pharmanex (a division of NuSkin) product called a BioPhotonic Scanner that is said to measure the level of carotenoids in your blood stream through the use of a laser light. The levels can read someplace between 10,000 an 55,000 depending on your level. The higher the number the better protected your body is from free radical damage. If the number presents too low, Pharmanex, their lifepak nano enhanced molecular delivery system anti-aging program, say that 5 times fast, is your answer.

This system consists of 60 packets each containing 7 capsules. The capsules contain a comprehensive anti-oxident, vitamin and mineral blend with phytonutrients. This powerful anti-aging formula protects the body with enhanced molecular delivery.

Finding Fish Oil That Works

29 Oct

1753Studies have shown that taking fish oil everyday can help prevent heart disease and cancer in both men and women.  Some of the additional benefits of fish oil have are:

  • Fighting Depression
  • Improving Autoimmune response
  • Protecting against Type 2 diabetes
  • Preventing heart attack and stroke
  • Improving memory
  • Improving eye sight (primarily macula degeneration)
  • Decrease blood clotting
  • Lower triglycerides

There are a ton of products on the market that tout on their label that they contain fish oil, but buyer beware.  Some fish oil capsules do not hold enough fish oil in them to benefit your health and they cost more then they are worth.

You can find a quality fish oil capsule by following this guideline.

  • Most fish oil is only 30% EPA and DHA.  be sure to read the fine print.  It may say 1000mg on the front, but when reading the back label it may say 300mg of EPA and DHA.  Be sure to check that the fish oil has between 700 to 1,000 IU a day.
  • Double strength may just mean you take two pills instead of one.  Some brands are more concentrated then others.  Check the supplement facts to find out how many pills you’ll have to take to get the EPA and DHA you want.
  • Ignore other omegas.  You don’t need other Omega-3s like ALA or Omega-6 fats.
  • Major brands are all mercury-free.  Consumer Reports and ConsumerLab.com have found no mercury in any big brand names, whether or not the label says they’re mercury-free.
  • You can buy DHA made from algae.  but so far, there is no vegetarian source of EPA.

Take caution with lipstick

28 Oct

Take caution when wearing lipstick or lip gloss during the day. Most lip products contain a reflective ingredient that gives your lips the shine after applying it to your lips. While that shine is what we are trying to achieve with it’s application it is also quite harmful for your lips.

You have heard that applying baby oil to your skin is not a healthy nor wise decision when out in the sun because it can promote sun damage or even skin cancer. Most lipsticks contain a form of baby oil, called mineral oil. It aides the sun in burning the thin, gentle skin on your lips increasing the cell breakdown and depletion of collagen. Collagen is what gives your lips their fullness. Without it we start to show signs of age with fine wrinkles around our lips. Most people don’t realize that wearing lipstick in the sun can cause premature aging. Next time you shop for lip products, be sure they contain an SPF of at least 30. There are some great products that are inexpensive out there. Maybelline and Cover Girl make one but the SPF is 15. Burts Bees has one with an SPF of 30. Color choices may be limited, but I’d rather be safe then sorry.

Benefits of White Tea

24 Sep

I‘ve posted about green tea and black tea, now it’s time to feature white tea and recognize the benefits of drinking it. Do you know that white tea is often considered the oldest form of tea? Made from immature tea leaves, white tea has many varieties, depending on the ratio of leaves to buds that are used in each mixture. Read on to know just some of the benefits of drinking white tea that I’ve gathered.

1. It has anti-cancer properties. White tea has flavonoids, a class of antioxidants that inhibit the growth of cancer cells and prevents development of new ones. Scientists have also found that the white tea extract can protect skin after exposure to sunlight to protect against skin cancer. Studies have shown that white tea is even more effective than green tea when it comes to cancer-fighting properties.

2. It is loaded with antioxidants. Like green tea, white tea is also loaded with antioxidants that protect the body against damage and promotes overall health. White tea has also been found to have prophylactic applications that slow down growth of harmful bacteria. It also contains catechins, a group of antioxidants that can reduce cholesterol.

3. It’s good for relaxation. Well, I think this is the trademark of all teas. They’re great to drink when you want to focus, clear your mind, or simply relax. White tea is no exception.

Fruits Flush Fat

8 Sep

Did you know that by eating fruit you can actually flush away the fat?  Well you can.  Eating certain foods help to turbo charge the weight loss.  Certain fruits are Low Energy Density which means that they contain more water, fiber and enzymes then others.  These fruits help aid in weight loss.  Fruits density rating should be between 0 and .6.  Some fruits with their energy density rating are listed below.  By eating these fruits you can help your body eliminate fat.

Strawberries       .2
Raspberries       .3
Watermelon       .3
Grapefruit         .3
Cantaloupe       .4
Honeydew        .4
Papaya             .4
Peaches           .4
Tangerines .4
Apricots .5
Pineapple .5
Oranges .6
Plums .6
Blueberries .6
Apples .6

Ripe fruit is rich in nonfluorescent chlorophyll catabolites which are super extra anti-oxidents.  They eliminate free radicals that can cause all types of illness in the body.  Studies suggest that vine ripened fruit has twice as many metabolism revving carotenoids then fruit thats picked when its green.  The longer the fruit is on the vine the more nutrients it picks up from the soil.  Best bets are buying local produce from farmers markets that have been vine ripened to help aid in the weight loss battle.

Your Shower Curtain Can Kill You!

8 Sep

A new study has proven that the PVC in shower curtains is highly toxic. The PVC in most shower curtains and shower curtain liners emits harmful fumes including lead. These fumes can cause respiratory, reproductive problems or short out your nervous system. These problems have affected thousands of very young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. The results can be quite serious and with continued exposure those with already compromised immune systems, it may even mean death. Toss your shower curtains. When buying a new one, make sure it is not made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Activate your days

28 Jul

The average weight gain for most Americans is 1-2 pounds per year.  WHile this does not sound alarming the problem really begins when those 1-2 pounds start adding up year after year.  Carrying those extra poubnds means being physically active gets more straining on your body.

Unfortunately eating healthy foods alone may not do the trick.  Regular activity is key in keeping yourself physically fit.  Being physically fit also means looking and feeling healthier and younger!  Researchers have found that exercise itself has a unique important health benefit.  It is highly unlikely that being physically active only on weekends will help if you have a sedentary lifestyle the other 5 days a week.  Activity even in small doses daily will help ward off those extra pounds.

After reviewing thousands of research studies to analyze how diet, activity and body weight are linked to cancer risk, the panel of 21 experts who prepared a report on this issue have found the physical activity is essential in lowering the risk of cancer.  Together with eating healthy and a healthy body weight, and a good level of physical activity the chance of getting any type of cancer decreases substantially.

These same scientists have convincing evidence that physical activity protects against colon cancer.  It probably also protects against breast cancer (in post menopausal women) and endometrial cancer as well.

The recommendation is at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day, everyday!

Being active makes the body respond better to insulin it produces.  Other perks that come with physical activity are a stronger immune system, a well functioning digestive system and less a chance for osteoporosis for women.  While 30 minutes of exercise per day lowers cancer risk, preventing weight gain requires 60 minutes per day.  Examples of moderate exercise are brisk walking (about 3.5 miles per hour) or swimming at a leisurely pace.  Thirty minutes of daily vigorous activity, like tennis or running (5 miles per hour) can replace the 60 minutes of daily moderate exercise.

Foods for skin-care and anti-aging

24 Jul

By: Michael Moshier

I’ve long been a proponent of anti-aging procedures from the inside out – it’s great that so many people are picking up on this idea and realizing that what they put in their body can have an effect on how they look. You can take this process as far as you want – talk to your doctor about testing certain hormone levels, about what vitamins you may be lacking, etc. – or simply tune in to what foods can work for you when it comes to anti-aging.

Certain foods help you reduce the amount of oil your skin produces, as well as help your skin no be too dry. These things can combine to help your skin look younger and more vibrant. Many of these foods may already be things you eat on a daily basis – antioxidant-rich berries and pomegranates, leafy vegetables, etc. But the truth is, the average person typically doesn’t eat enough of these types of food to make the difference you may be looking for.

Wheat grass is known to provide health benefits when it comes to cholesterol, possibly preventing cancer and helping to lower blood pressure. Barley is another food that may already be in your diet, and could just use a boost. It’s a great way to improve the digestive system as well as reduce blood sugar in the body.

If you do a bit of research, you may find other food that add to your anti-aging regimen and treat the issue of aging from the inside out.
